The City of Long Branch, NJ and the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders have collaborated on an aggressive project to revamp a multi-lane highway into a pedestrian-safe roadway.
Birdsall Engineering, Inc. (BEI) is responsible for transforming this stretch of road into an aesthetically pleasant and safe roadway that allows for an efficient flow of traffic while providing pedestrian and bikeway facilities for City residents.
The resulting project will include 11 new or replaced traffic signals in a closed-loop design through urban arterials, roadway realignment, pedestrian and bikeway improvements, a City park renovation, drainage improvements and landscaping.
Street trees will be planted to help in traffic calming by narrowing the corridor viewshed. Trees will also be used as a median buffer between northbound and southbound vehicular traffic flow. Plazas will be created at various locations to provide essential focal points to the gateway entrance to the City and to provide public spaces that buffer redevelopment areas.
